what is the overall opinion of EG in general? I've used it but it's been a while. Complete/thorough or not? My kids did R&S for a year or two each around middle school, but I want something to re-cover everything, and I don't want to spend a fortune.

So??

I hope I can help. I have two children. My son (oldest) taught himself to read at three years old...so I didn't do much spelling, grammar, or vocab. in elementary years. We did workbooks like Write Source, Keys, stuff like that. Those workbooks were good, and he did learn from them, but I didn't know where he was at with grammar after completing them. So, I had him do the Easy Grammar Plus (red book) and Easy Writing (some of it, yellow book) in 8th grade. It was perfect for him. The next year, he went straight to A Beka 10th grade grammar with no problem. Easy Grammar is very simple, but really teaches how to find parts of a sentence, and what that book teaches can be easily translated to harder grammar workbooks.

Second child, our daughter, did easy grammar in elementary school. She went up to the 54 level. She learned to read much later than my son, and I have had to do spelling, vocab., grammar, etc. every year with her. She has struggled with reading late, so when she was younger, I had to ignore grade levels and get curriculum that was right for her. In 7th grade I wanted to really center in on language arts, so we did BJU Reading 6, Spelling 6, and English 6. These three together were perfect for her and she did very well that year, I actually got her close to grade level using these. After she finished them, though, I noticed that it would be a step backwards to go back to Easy Grammar, so we stayed with BJU grammar workbooks.
