Yup, I have a ten foot set of monkey bars in the basement. And the part you can hang from adjusts up and down. Two jumbo yellow slides that can go anywhere on the monkey bars. Two twin mattress, and a single for jumping on....

Sometimes we even move the mattress, and couch cushions and put them on the stairs to make a stair slide. Once we had it set up so you could go all the way from upstairs to downstairs.

And I have trouble finding kids in the neighborhood who can happily play for over 30 minutes without wanting to stop and watch TV.

I am not letting my dd6 see these pictures! She wants me to get rid of the schoolroom and turn it into a gym instead! That's cool! My dc would come and play for hours with no t.v. required!

Are you doing a formal program with your children?

I got the design for the ladder from the book by Glenn Doman. I did a hanging program with both my boys. I found the ladder wasn't high enough for me to be able to help them learn how to go across.

My eldest who is almost 4 can go across the monkey bars at the park. The bars on our ladder are to close together for him to use. My Father-in-law designed it so I can remove bars, but if I do that the kids will not be able to safely walk across the top of the bars. :(

So I just let them play, jump, ...

I also have two homemade crawling tracks, 3 feet and 6 feet. We use to use them as slides before we got the big yellow ones.

That is interesting because our neighbor kids *love* playing at our house just because I let them slide down the stairs. :)

They want nothing to do with tv (though we don't have cable anyway, only movies and video games), they just want the sleeping bags and flip chair and they will happily slide down our stairs for hours (I am surprised our carpeting isn't worn out)!

Your basement is AWESOME by the way! :D

When dd was a baby dh and I lived in a small two bedroom apartment. We actually converted the living room into a play room for her, complete with slide, brachiation ladder, trapeze, books and an easel for drawing. At one point we even had an inflatable ball pit. I have never been great at keeping up with the programs, but I have adapted many of the principles to fit our family. I do a phd every year, and try to expose my little ones to as much as possible. :)
