I bought Fix It Grammar and my ds tried it this past week. All he did was make spelling and basic mechanical corrections (he flew through the definitions). He admitted not knowing much more than that. He is a rising 8th grader who had some basic grammar instruction in 6th and 1/2 of 7th grades in ps so he knows nouns, verbs, capitalize at the beginning of a sentence, and punctuation at the end of a sentence but he doesn't know when to use a comma or colon, etc. I want to reinforce the basics he has learned and have him dig deeper with advanced level grammar.
So can I have my ds work on Easy Grammar Ultimate and Fix It Grammar through out the year? Do they complement each other or do I need to have him do the EGU first? I am looking for something that will get him up to speed this year and then be able to reinforce with practice in 9th and 10th. I like short lessons (10 to 15 min) and prefer not to diagram. I'm open to all suggestions!

I've only used Fix-it-Grammar, but I've been very impressed with it. Did your son start with a story that is appropriate for his age? Some of the stories start fairly basic, but it continues to build and reinforce. I was always good at grammar, and I am learning lots and I see if transfer to my son's writing.

We started with The Little Mermaid for 6th-9th grade. He is starting 8th grade today! Do you think I should drop it down? To what level? Is your opinion to stick with Fix-It?

I think Easy Grammar is a good program for review in the 8th grade. My son did it, and went straight to the 10th grade A Beka grammar/writing workbook the next year. Easy Grammar (we did plus) put all of the loose ends together and prepared him for high school. My daughter did Easy Grammar in elementary school, then moved to BJU in 7th grade, and has been in that program since then.
