Well, I'm not sure I'd say we can't live without it, but older dd and I have enjoyed The History of the English Language by Seth Lehrer. Honestly, hearing Professor Lehrer read in Olde English makes every day a little bit brighter. ;)

Dd is watching the first lecture now actually. He is great! We are both learning a ton!

I think my favorite for "homeschool" is the Chemistry set, because it's designed to go along with a different curriculum.

Everything by Elizabeth Vandiver.
We also enjoyed "Joy of Math" by Arthur Benjamin.

The high school history series - both World and US History. We actually used them in middle school with sonlight 6/7. They are great and we all still remember so many things taught in them.
My 11th grade ds is currently really loving Game Theory (not sure if that is the actual title) and I think everyone form now on will be doing that as a high school elective.
