Do I choose Memoria Press's First Year Henle Latin Study Guide? Or the Latin I Syllabus from Mother of Divine Grace School?

Our Latin background is Prima Latina when dd was in 5th or 6th grade, Latina Christiana in 7th grade. I am a Latin wimp, and my kids did okay all things considered. But I really want dd to have two years of Latin in high school...

The Memoria Press book says that it's for younger students and covers Henle I in 4.5 years. So maybe I don't want that for my 14yodd?

Likes, dislikes, opinions on either one of these? Please? :?

That MP Henle guide moves so slow. I'm working through Henle myself with some online friends (although they may have abandoned me ) and I'll have covered the MP Henle guide for units I & II in less than 12 weeks. I would go with MODG.

What's MODG...............

It stands for Mother of Divine Grace (http://www.motherofdivinegrace.org/curriculum/) which sells curriculum based on Laura Berquist's recommendations in her book Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum.

Now I'm confusing myself further. After searching old posts, I'm looking at Sr. Mary Jeanne's Teacher's Manual for Henle.

Oh, I really wanted to place this order tonight. Thank you for the comments, I'm glad I didn't rush into Memoria Press without looking one last time.

I think I'll curl up in a fetal position and chant, "Latin will be easy, Latin will be easy."

MP.

You are going to move at student's pace of mastery anyway, so the scheduling fast/slow isn't going to matter.

MP has more "study tips" and study habits types of suggstions.

Another thumbs-up for the MODG syllabus. I can't imagine spending 4.5 years on Henle. I think I'd be tempted to stick a fork in my eye.

I just saw this post, which is a little dated, I guess, but I have the following I can mail to anyone who would like it:

Mother of Divine Grace guide for Latin II (uses Henle Latin Book I) - like new - daily guide for assignments; includes tests, answer keys. $25 ppd

Please pass this on to anyone you know who might be able to use it.

Thanks,
Jo

Kristine, since I am pondering the same question, I am wondering what finally made you choose MODG over MP?

Which one did you go with? There are several MODG syllabi for Henle I: one that covers Henle I in two years, another that takes three years and there may even be one that does it in one year. Lots of flexibility! :)

Karen, I can't remember exactly why. I was trying to get the rest of my curriculum ordered that night. I searched the boards for other info on MODG, which brought up several comparisons with MP. I also stumbled across another "booklet" of some type that I briefly checked out (it was another Catholic school, written by a Sr., through Loyola Press).

I greatly preferred the price of the MP book (g). But I knew I'd prefer my dd slow down if necessary, than speed up in a program that was too easy. More mileage for my dollar, perhaps...more motivation for my dd... We've had enough vocab, plus I think she's going to do Getting Started With Latin to brush up before beginning Henle. I want her to know that I expect she can do the more challenging book.

The real answer to your question is that I have NO idea at this point why I chose MODG. I'm planning for next year, and I've lost it completely!

I used the old syllabus for Henle Latin which did try to give more than one scheme for doing the book and it didn't have enough study helps.
I decided to buy the new syllabus after buying the Henle Latin II from Modg last year.
It has a lot more study helps, ie, blank charts that have to filled in daily, weekly quizzes, more concrete directions on studying. I don't know if there is a new Memoria Press one as they both seem to be working hard to give us more.
