to everyone who contributes to this board. I cannot begin to tell you how invaluable it has been to read through this message board as I was preparing to homeschool my upcoming 9th grader. I have never homeschooled before, I'm a single parent, and I work full-time as a cpa, so even though my ds has had years of frustration and disappointment in public school, it never occured to me that I could homeschool him. However, things came to a head towards the end of his eighth grade year, and something had to change. Luckily, I know he wants to learn and can in the right environment, so I feel this is the right move for him.
So, I had the seemingly overwhelming task of figuring out what homeschooling meant, what the different theories were behind it, and most of all which curriculum to use for each course. I was so glad a friend recommended TWTM and this forum, as it really helped me to put into focus what I wanted him to learn and how to begin to go about it. We began school in early July, a few days a week, just to test the waters, and I think this just might work!
Many, many thanks to you all for your posts that are filled with reviews, recommendations, advice, encouragement, etc. What a wonderful group of people...
