bump....

I'd like to know too.

I just bought LLATL Gold Am Lit (used) to add some poetry, etc to a long list of books already read. In this particular case it was MUCH less expensive than LL.

I believe Jean in Wisc has used and enjoyed some of the LLATL for high school.
How is she being contacted these days, here or on her blog?

My dd is using abeka this year, and I wanted to add in some whole books with more work for her. Does LLATL have them read the entire books at hs. level?
Would it be too much to use along with abeka?

Well, except for the poetry book. They only study specific poems from the poetry book.

I purchased LL gr. 8 last summer, but ended up sending it back within days. It was a little too workbookish for my son. It looked like a good solid program, but I knew he would not like the workbook feel of it. I did like the writing assignments and I think he would have enjoyed those. There was a little writing instruction, but I was not overly impressed with that part.

I now have LLATL Gold (British lit) that I plan to use with my son this year. It is not workbookish at all and I'm impressed with the writing assignments. LLATL Gold teaches how to write an essay. I *really* like how they teach this.

I was stopping by and decided to google my board name to see what might be happening...and here you are, talking about me again.

Yes, I've not been on the boards much--too much neck/shoulder/back pain. Anyone can pm me or contact me through my blog.

And yes, I use parts of the LLATL Gold books each year in high school. Their poetry is more challenging than other programs--some of it we just do together orally because we struggle with the old poetry and their meanings. But they are all authors that are well-known and I think it is worthwhile to dip into their poetry and see what they are like. I use the short story unit to study literary terms--and again, the authors are well-known and classic.

I usually do a section from these books each year in high school. I do not do the whole book--we move on to other materials for the rest of the year. I grumble about these books when I use them, and every year I go out and look for something that does the job better. I've asked on these boards and I've gone out and purchased other materials...but I've not found anything that substitutes for these and does a better job.

FWIW,
Jean

This is what we're doing this year too. I have both LLATL Gold American & Gold Brit and we're going to use parts of the American this year. We're reading Red Badge of Courage to coincide with US History and it will be great to have the Lit Analysis. My DD and I love their poetry so we'll do that this year too. In fact DD is in Performing Arts camp for 2 weeks and she chose a poetry selection from her LLATL Green book to use as part of her audition. When you consider the variety and selection of literature covered by LLATL it's a bargain to buy even if you only use part of it.

Good idea, Jean, to do parts. These books are not that expensive and good for reference. I have the American Lit. from many years ago and saved it for my last one. I will purchase the British Lit. for use with my TOG. Oh, and I like your kitty.:)
