My son and I agonized over what science to take and he decided to take AP physics B. His Chemistry teacher from this past year recommended him for it. So, after looking at some options, I decided on the Virtual High School due to the excellent reviews I had heard about them. Well, I just found out that all their sections are full. He will be on the waiting list, but I don't have much hope in him getting in because AP classes don't shift around that much.

I cannot teach physics. Although I am a mathy/sciency person, I am not expert enough to do this. Dh just doesn't have the time. Ds needs the structure of a class with scheduled deliverables and discussions. I am iin a panic.

My options:

- look for another AP physics class online. I will not use CTD's Gifted Learning Links again. Very expensive and very poor quality. I just don't know where to turn. I don't want another "syllabus with a book and grader" option but a real instructor.

- hire a college student as a tutor. this will be expensive and could work out great or it could be a disaster. It will be expensive, but my other options thus far are expensive as well. Will this person keep my son on task? I will probably have to come up with a syllabus myself.

- have him take a 1 quarter class at the local college which is biking distance if good weather. I still can't get a hold of the Community Scholars (high schoolers on campus) coordinator to return my calls and emails.) This would be a very condensed class - 10 weeks to learn all that material. could be pretty high pressure.

-have him take a course at the local community collge which is about a 30 minute drive.

- skip physics and have my son just take college biology classes and do physics another year. Ds definitely does not want to do this - he is very nervous about being in a classroom.

More stress. Just what I need - NOT!

Somebody, please wave your magic wand and make this OK.

I've heard good things about the scholars online physics.

Thanks for the recommendation. After reviewing all our options available and changing our piano lessoons, we did go with Scholars Online AP Physics. I am somewhat concerned with the "disorganization" of the teacher, but I have heard good things, otherwise. Ds is excited and will do some reading on physics this summer to be prepared.

I am almost done deciding on all the pieces. Then I need to get planning.
