I have not used anything for lit except reading, listening, writing and discussing it....ouch I need to get something going for 8th. But to be honest- I am not sure where to head. We love the idea of getting stuck on what author until we are sick of it......does anything exist that is flexible?

It is put out by the IEW people. I *think* it goes through some samples, but then you choose your own books to read and discuss. They give lots of Socratic question ideas (I believe). Can you tell I don't really *know?* LOL! I don't know how much specifically there is about figurative language, symbolism, etc. though. But you could use a workbook (Walch Prose & Poetry) for that.

That's exactly where I was last year in regard to literature. I chose to go with Lightning Lit this year. It has been very good...quite clear, not overwhelming, effective. I'm glad I chose it.

WTTW (http://www.excellenceinwriting.com/index.php?q=product/windows-world%3A-introduction-literary-analysis-teacher/student-combo) looks excellent! It's new. You can view the TM & SM on the IEW families yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IEWfamilies/?yguid=93229998).

My dd is in 8th this year and we are using LL. I am very pleased with how my dd has taken to this course. Lots of good information, she gets to read whole books (not just a part) and has some poetry thrown in. This is the first year we've done something "formal" for lit and it was an easy transition using LL.
