My son is going to have his senior photos taken this weekend. He will be wearing casual (jeans, layered long sleeve with shirt underneath) and bringing his guitar for the photos. We are doing them outdoors in a downtown area here in our city. Lot's of brick buildings, streets, small winding river, etc.

Any suggestions on how to take the photo? I'm sure the photographer has tons of great ideas as she selected the spot but I thought I'd ask here in case you all had some great ideas that I could throw out to her.

My sister suggested walking along a railroad track with the guitar under his arm. Any other suggestions?

if the photographer seems efficient and knowledgeable, you have seen their work and you like it- wait for him/her to ask.
Having done this before I can tell you it can be very distracting. The photographer has options mostly based on lighting and often people start suggesting things that just won't work for that location. If you like their work- trust them to come up with great ideas.
Bring samples of photos you like, if the photographer asks you'll have pics worth a thousand words.

have fun-

She already asked me. I would never tell her what to do if she had not asked. :)

I like to see more natural poses as opposed to canned ones. If he's bringing something that means something to him (his guitar), my ideas would be...

the train tracks like your sister suggested
sitting by some type of pond "playing" with the natural wildlife around him
in an abandoned building, sitting down center room, playing quietly and "lost" in his playing..

Honestly for me, it's all about natural as opposed to "put guitar in lap and smile" (which I hope she doesn't do)...

Great ideas. I'll suggest these to see if she can do them. I think she'll be more creative then the canned photos you talk of. I would be very upset if "put guitar in lap and smile" was all she did. I'd be sayin' something right away.

Thanks!!
