We won't be homeschooling until my kids finish this year up at a private school, but I realized my son (7) is not really doing much phonics re-enforcement at school. They talk about things in circle time, but not much else. I finally got him up to grade level reading in the last couple of months (reading has finally clicked with him and he no longer cries/whines about sitting down with a a book due to frustration) but I feel like he needs something (afterschooling) to help him with his decoding skills, in addition to reading aloud with me each day. I've heard people mention ETC and Plaid phonics and just wondering if something like that would be helpful. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think either one of those programs would work well as an afterschooling option. For something that's more pick-up-and-go and not a workbook type program, you could also use Phonics Pathways. I'm using it now with my youngest to reinforce some blends that he is having problems with.

for the ETC/Phonics Pathways option. My kids really enjoy the ETC books, and the PP is a great program of instruction that you can just read and review together.

We use both ETC and Phonics Pathways. If you only want to do one, I think Phonics Pathways is a good place to start provided your child doesn't require kinesthetic learning to go along with it.

but ETC worked wonderfully with my oldest son. We just finished the series 2 weeks ago after starting with Get Ready, Get Set and Go for the Code 3 years ago!

Sounds like everyone agrees. Thank you so much!
