For the first time, 14yo ds will attend a public school. He is enrolled in:

Geometry (possibly honors, they will test him the first week)
Earth Science Honors
Speech and Debate (with competitions)
English Honors
French I (he's taken Latin and Spanish but he chose this himself)
9th grade PE
(He's not taking a history class because AP classes don't start until 10th grade and he wants to take the AP history class).

He will also play tennis (first time), basketball and soccer. He will join the Key Club (which is a high school level Kiwanis) that mainly does community service projects.

I have joined the PTA and everyone, so far, has been super nice to us. The school will have over 1500 students. The principal took us on a tour of the school months ago when we were making our decision. He spoke directly to Elijah, saying the same exact things about life that we had already told Elijah. Seriously, we did NOT pay him to say those things. But, it was sure nice having someone who has never met us reiterate life to our son.

When I asked the principal what he would need from me (paper work, test scores, etc) because of the classes I wanted Elijah to be in, he looked at me, kind of shook his head and said, "Nothing. Put him in whatever classes you think he's capable of doing. He's going to be a great asset to our school." To say I was shocked is an understatement. I'm sure my mouth hung open. I know I said, "Seriously, you don't want anything? Nothing?"

We had the same reaction when we met his counselor weeks later.

I'm sure we'll have ups and downs. But, we're going into this with an open mind and a positive attitude. I'm excited for him and wish him the absolute best.

I'll let you all know how it goes as the year progresses. I always find it interesting to see how kids transition.

Oh, I am totally taking him to his "first" day of school and taking pictures!!!

Blessings,
Michele
