Hi,
I recently joined this board and it has been a wonderful resource.
I have a question for those of you who are familiar with ALEKS.
Is ALEKS a test prep or supplementation type math program?
After visiting the web site and my dd tried the free trial for Geometry( high school) and actually liked it.
She is currently taking Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1, for 8th grade. (We recently switched from Math U See, and she is finding that TT is lots of review.)
She will be attending a local arts school next year and she would like to have a little more geometry under her belt. ( so sad our home schooling days are almost over)
Do you think it would be do-able to do both Algebra 1 and Geometry?
Another option is to so the middle school geometry. My daughter is not a math wiz, but she is a very hard worker.
I am looking forward to your thoughts.

Dd enjoyed it, but not as much as Alg I. She completed probably 3/4 of it, but took honors Geometry once she entered school and works VERY hard to maintain an A in the class. (In other words, it was some help, but she's not coasting in the class by any means.)

I wouldn't use it as a standalone for that particular class (we would have liked to have seen more required proofs), but I think it's a great supplement.

Not sure if she could do them both. As to the middle school geometry, it depends on whether or not she's interested in repeating the class once she's in a brick and morter high school. If she's going to do that, then I'd definitely say get the middle school level mastered alongside the Alg I.

Dear Pam,
Yes, she plans to take Geometry in 9th grade at the brick and mortar school. This depends on how well she does this year in Algebra 1 of course, but that is her plan. We have not decided on standard or honors yet.
She wants to feel well prepared.
Thanks so much for your response.
