A Great Knitting Book For Kids

Thought some of you might be interested in this book I just ordered. It is called "Great Yarns for the Close Knit Family." It is knitting patterns to go with great literature like "Mr. Poppers Penguins." You can read about it on my blog www.carinforseven.typepad.com I can wait to make these projects with my girls.

Does it TEACH knitting as well? Dd wants to learn (as do I) and I have an aunt who is extremely talented in knitting but we only see her once a week on Sundays and so I'd like dd to have a book to refer to as well. Thanks!

I saw it mentioned on Melissa Wiley's blog the other day (because one of her books is in it), and I immediately thought about pre-ordering it. I will next week.

For those interested in learning knitting, I would suggest a beginning knitting video instead of a book. The illustrations in a book are often very confusing, but a video can be slowed down, repeated, etc. as many times as you need to. That's how I learned a little under a year ago, and then I taught my dd to knit. Check your local library or hobby store. I found a great one there for knitting, and another one for crocheting. I got both, and dd and I have learned to knit and crochet now.

My dd ( age 10 ) is learning to knit and we are planning to read The Secret Garden aloud this spring. I need this book :) and can't find it listed on Amazon. Thanks so much for mentioning this book. I am always amazed at the wonderful things I learn about on these boards. :)

If you pre-order before March 8th, you get a free set of wooden knitting needles.
