I have the following three vintage readers:
1. The New OUR NEW FRIENDS, Copyright 1956. The New Basic Readers Curriculum Foundation Series from Scott, Foresman and Company. This Dick and Jane book is a former textbook that was given to me to use in my homeschool. The pages are tightly bound, but it does show wear on the edges. 192 pages In the back of the book it is rated as 1st grade. The illustrations are cute. $12.50 with delivery confirmation, insurance is extra
The first story is "The New House"
"See Spot run," said Jane.
"See Spot run to the new house."
"Come home, Spot," said Dick.
"Come, Spot, come. Come home."
2. The New STREETS AND ROADS, Copyright 1956, The New Basic Readers Curriculum Foundation Series from Scott, Foresman and Company. This book is in good condition and continues the "Dick and Jane" theme, however the characters are Susan, Tommy, etc. 319 pages In the back of the book it is rated as 3rd grade. $10.00 ppd, with delivery confirmation, insurance is extra
3. JUST IMAGINE, copyright 1953. The New Basic Readers, Curriculum Foundation Series. This book is listed as a transition reader as children take the step from primary to intermediate grades. The book has bumped corners, but the pages are tightly bound and in good shape. 255 pgs. $9.00 ppd, with delivery confirmation, insurance is extra
These were given to me years ago to supplement my homeschool. I used a phonetic approach to teach reading, but the kids enjoyed reading through these books, just for fun. Again, not a phonetic reader, more of a whole language type of reader. But, who can resist the charm of the books?
