in style? And why doesn't anyone use Lial's for geometry? That's assuming there is one. I really don't know.:001_smile:

When we chose algebra books I got a few recommended ones from interlibrary loan and compared them. Dd and I both chose Foresters.
Foerester's Algebra 1 was a big hit here.

I have Jacobs' Geometry but I have unexplained reservations about it fitting dd's learning style. She's bright but has organizational challenges so clarity, visual and in explanations, is key. Something about Jacobs' turns me off, the wordiness and formatting that's why we went with Forester's Algebra 1 in the first place after looking at Jacobs.

Dd would love to do Math U See. She breezed through MUS pre-algebra in less than three months, and I would hear her humming happily in her room as she worked. I just think I would like something more challenging for her. Any comments about MUS geometry? Perhaps I'll make that another thread.

Thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.

We are Foerster lovers in this house. :) I have taught 4 different geo programs.......MUS (which I use as pre-geo), the traditional one from CD, Jacobs, and the new one from CD. By far, the new one I prefer is the new one from CD.

Why?? I'm not sure exactly. Its teaching is clear and concise. The problems are excellent. It is pure geometry (not full of all the typical high school "stuff" in the traditional CD book and not wordy like Jacobs.)

Well, I don't know that it is necessarily "close" to it, but I know that Jacobs was a student of Foerster (or vice-versa).
We used and enjoyed the second edition which is proof intensive.
Another Foerster fan,

We're using MUS Geometry with the honors supplement. It is by no means a "pre-geometry" program. If you want, Mr. Demme has posted a scope and sequence of it on his site.

There is one (http://www.mathusee.com/pdfs/geometryscope.pdf) for what is in the regular program, and another (http://www.mathusee.com/pdfs/GHScope.pdf) for what is in the honors program.

DS is very visual also. He does not do well with "fussy" programs or books. He hates DK Eyewitness books, for example, as they are too distracting.

Thank you for the helpful comments and links.

I was in a rush before going out when I posted this. There really are a lot of typos. I don't look qualified to choose a geometry book, much less homeschool.:blushing: (Forester's not Foerster's--my, oh my!)

I think I want to get a hold of the new CD geometry through the library to get a look at it.

About MUS...are the honors lessons single, one-page lessons or are the concepts reviewed over multiple pages as are the regular lessons? Are the honors lessons explained on the DVD?

Thanks again for all help!

My ds used Geometry by Jergensen, Brown, Jurgensen from McDougal Littell. I thought it was straight-forward with nice clean pages. It reminds me of the Dolciani Algebra I and II books which we also used and are also published by McDougal Littel. HTH.

They are one-page lessons. He does not go over them on the DVDs, as they are designed to push the kid to think about the concepts already learned. The newest editions have "explained" answers at the back, but you can also download the a .pdf of the steps from the website.
