Today, my ds (7) got hit in the eye with a sled that had been thrown (don't ask!). His eye was closed at the time. He said that he was seeing "colored lightning" in green and red. I had him sit and rest. His vision seems fine. He hasn't lost peripheral vision. It doesn't hurt.

This was about an hour ago. I just saw him in the light and the eye that got hit is sensitive to the light. He said he is still seeing some colored spots every so often.

Is this something that should be seen? Dh partially detatched his retina in high school and he said he couldn't see out of the eye. This definately seems less severe than that!

So, what says the hive?

Thanks!!

GO! You don't take chances with vision. You only get one shot. And if you're wrong, it's not like you have a crooked toe for the rest of your life. You know?

YES!! This is one instance where I say without a doubt you should go. *Always* better safe than sorry with vision, seeing spots can be a very bad sign.

I don't know, but OW! That sounds painful. Your poor DS. Keep us posted.

I might try calling the optometrist and ask their opinion, that way they know you're coming, or can set your mind at ease.

Another vote for GO!

You can have a detached retina and still see--and spots are one sign.
Just in case, go.
After all, if it's nothing, you are only out $. If it's something, won't you be glad you went? Won't you regret it if you find out you could have done something, but you didn't because of cost or convenience? Those are the questions I ask when I have a decision to make like this.

I agree with taking him in.

If it helps you feel better, I didn't even consider asking why the sled was thrown .
