View Full Version : French??
Besides Rosetta Stone and Powerglide, what are my choices for beginning French? I'd need textbook, teacher's guide, workbook, and tests. Thanks!

Here's an older thread, What do you use for high School French? (http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36170&highlight=french), which lists some possibilities.
Another thread that might be of interest: online French courses? (http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92647&highlight=french)
And this one: Wonderful FREE (!!!) Way to Study French (http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90740&highlight=french)

We are using Auralog's Tell Me More computer based program; it's a good bit cheaper than Rosetta Stone and just as robust, imo. They claim to be more grammar based than RS, but I really couldn't judge.
Everything is on the computer, but you can print exercises, download audio to your mp3 player, etc.
There isn't a separate 'teacher's guide' but the program does all the grading and tracking for you.
The Homeschool Buyer's Co-op is just starting a buy for this; the discount is only 15% now but could go much higher.

My dd is starting French this year and we've decided to do a combination of Rosetta Stone with Breaking the Barrier French (very grammar-based).
