This is his summary of King Alfred and The Cakes in WT 1.
There was a king named Alfred. People kept invading his country. Then Danes came to destroy their country so he had to abandon his country. Then he came to a little hut, and he knocked on the door. A lady replied, "Come in." The king asked if he could stay for a day or two. The lady said, "If you watch these blueberry cakes you can stay." So he sat by the stove, but he forgot because he was thinking about his country. When the lady returned the cakes were burnt. Then she started to whack him with a stick.
The End!
This was written by my very reluctant writer. I sat with him as he did it to help him with spelling and mechanics, but he thought of all the sentences. I was just wondering if he was waaaay behind other 3rd graders or not. I know I can't expect him to be like every other 3rd grader, but I was wondering how he compared. Thanks for the input.
