My 3 yo jumped and smashed my 13 yo in the nose. I am thinking it might be broken, but not sure. Do they do anything for a broken nose? Or should I just ice it and give tylenol?

Unless there is marked dislocation or prolonged bleeding, all a doctor will do is prescribe icing and pain-relievers even if it is broken. Ice, elevation, and pain relief is the standard. My dd whacked me in the nose last week with her "big, fat head" as I called it. It hurt like holy heck, and I ended up black around my eyes, so you may see that, too. hth.

You may want to get it looked at just to be sure. Most of the time I don't think they do anything, but once in a while there can be complications.

I asked the nurse this question 2 weeks ago when my DS smashed his nose into the corner of our piano. It was swollen somewhat and bleeding. She said unless it's grossly dislocated, or the swelling interferes with his breathing to treat it at home with ice and pain relievers.

I don't think my son's nose was actually broken, but I didn't know for sure, and I wanted to know for next time. (I'm sure there will be a next time with this guy. ;)
