We have been using R&S math for some time now and I need a change! I like the program but after seeing the same thing 5 times, I need a break!!!!!

This would be for my soon to be 3rd grader. He's working 2 grades ahead but we've hit a wall with fractions! I wouldn't be opposed to go down a level. Until the fraction chapter, he's just breezed along with no problems what so ever.

Can someone recommend a good math program that is similar but not so black & white? I like how it reviews. I don't like BJU math but other than that, we are open.

Thanks,
Melissa

So is he working at a 4th grade level? Have you looked at Horizons? It is a workbook, but it is colorful, and it reviews alot. My ds chose R&S math this year after hitting a wall w/ Saxon last year. He used R&S for about a month and hated it. He is now doing Horizons, and loves it!

You might look at Horizons 4. http://www.aop.com/horizons/Samples_index.php

BJU, but nevermind. Have you considered Key to Fractions to get him over the bump? I have also heard good things about R&S people moving to CLE.

Also check out the resources on livingmath.net . Math from a different direction might be a good break while he cements his fractions.

What level of math is he on? I was watching the sample videos of the Basic Math program at Chalkdust and I thought it had a good, engaging way of explaining the fractions.

Maybe the Key to..... series would help you supplement particular things? Other than that, I prefer Singapore programming, overall.
