Hi all,

Popping in over here from the K-8 board. I have a question about Prentice Hall science. I intend for my dd to complete some AP level science courses.

We are starting PH Science Explorer. Is the work in SE challenging enough to go straight to AP courses, or must I use the freshman and sophmore programs they sell? Could I use SE in middle school, then Apologia General before going into Prentice Hall AP?

TIA,

Lesley

My dd, 13, did two SE books this past year. My son, 17, has taken three years of high school science at public school and will be in AP Bio this fall. No - SE will NOT be enough to be ready to dive into AP anything. You will still need high school level science.

I've looked at some of the on-line AP homeschool courses to see what they recommend, and many of them (not all) highly recommend doing the earlier courses before you attempt AP. I'm unclear of all the reasons at the moment (too early and haven't had enough coffee yet). so, we will follow the traditional track.

I was wondering if I could drag SE out through 9th grade. Looks like no.

Thanks again.

AP courses are intended to demonstrate knowledge on a college level, not high school. SAT IIs are high school level tests.

A high school level course in the material helps make the leap to the college level material.
