This would be a beginning, once-a-month class, lasting 1.5 to 2 hours each time, and taught by a photographer. The class size would be limited to 10-12 students, 6th grade and up. She would use a text and base her assignments on local photography contests. She would also teach working with the photos on Photoshop, and may even work in the dark room because this is a favorite area of hers.
I'm helping her to set this up because my dd is very interested, but she's not sure how much she should charge. What do you think?

Several years ago I took a class from a professional photographer. It was $25 per lesson for a 1-hr lesson. It was the basics of photography and didn"t cover any digital at all. I would think she could get at least that much per hour per student if not more.

My children have been taking photography classes for the past two years. Originally the cost was $120 for 6 weeks. This of course did not include their equipment. Now, their teacher is one of my best friends and her dd is my dd best friend, so she refuses to charge us much for their lessons. She teaches from a photography text and they go on outings to do shoots. She has also begun teaching them in the dark room as well. They have competed in local and state competitions, plus go on trips to exhibits. This month they are going to a photography museum for a day trip. The only difference is that my children are in 5th grade and have been with her since 3rd grade. Some of their work is on my blog, under kids photo, if you would like to look at it.

Wow Stephanie! Your baby is precious! Congratulations! We went to a man from church's 16th leap year birthday (of course he's really 64) and it was fun to attend a "sweet 16" party for him!
Your daughters' photos are great too! Now I'm even more excited about our class!
Thanks for posting!
Thanks A.J. too. This is helping to see how expensive photography classes can be.
