All I can really come up with is reading and activities. My two younguns would whine and moan about this. Do you do anything extra? What are your schedule of using this book?

Thanks

There are schedules at the Elem Apologia Yahoo! group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Elem_Apologia_Science/

My oldest is working through Zoology I and II this school year. I've spread out the reading, notebook assignments, and experiments over 36 weeks. We only do science twice a week. It has worked very well for us, and my son is able to do most of the work independently. I usually don't do anything extra with the Apologia series.

As far as extras, we are also reading The Burgess Bird Book for Children which can be found online at mainlesson.com. My girls are loving this, and it makes science more interesting for them. We are also doing our own lapbook, you can see examples of the booklets in any of the weekly reports on my blog.

As far as a schedule, we do science twice a week. Most of the lessons so far are taking us two weeks. (We're only up to lesson 5 because we just started in January.) HTH

We are lapbooking it, using Live and Learn (http://www.liveandlearnpress.com). Making your own would be easy enough to do. :)

I make notebook pages, and also find other helpful things at the yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Elem_Apologia_Science/)listed above.

I think suggested activities are a nice addition to the curriculum and the kids really enjoy them. Remember to check out the suggested video's as well. They are wonderful.

We are doing 1 lesson every 2 weeks (since we are doing this in a co-op setting).

I have also added different games to play like: Caught in the Web (http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/product/caught-in-the-web)and Professer Noggin's (http://www.professornoggin.com/Pages/briefdesc.html). We are finally onto birds and I will find some bird games and add those as well.
