That rocks! Congratulations to your ds, wonderful scores. Was this his first time taking the test? What did he think of it? Has he taken the SAT, and, if so, how would he compare the experiences? Did he take the test to give you guys better info as to where he's at academically, does he need it to enter a particular program ...?
(My ds, almost-13, will probably be taking a college entrance exam in the fall, so I'm full of questions :) )

Susannah, this was his first attempt at ACT. He thought it was tougher than SAT which he had taken in 7th grade through the Talent Search program. This is because ACT is more content specific than SAT. His math scores were low because he has not done Algebra II and Trig and is only half way through his Geometry course. SAT requires only Algebra I and basic geometry according to ds. Science is not tested in SAT. We did this to satisfy the end of year testing requirements in our state and get some feedback on where he is at academically. I didn't see any point in making him do the IOWA test. He probably could start on some college courses but since he is so young we are going to do some AP courses online.
HTH!

We've not gotten DS's scores yet... and it seems that clicking "refresh" over and over doesn't speed it up... :p But I'm not expecting them to be anywhere near those! Congratulations to your DS!!

Very impressive! Congrats to your ds! I didn't know you could take AP courses online, where did you find the info on them?

Well, there are several AP online providers : Keystone Highschool, Nebraska Lincoln Highschool, PA Homeschoolers Online, Scholars Online, Mark Cruthers, etc.

Thanks, Nissi!
The comparison of math for SAT v ACT was especially helpful. My ds is in the same place as yours math-wise, so perhaps the SAT would be a better choice. I was thinking ACT because it's a shorter test. Had your son previously taken the NWEA MAP, and if so, how predictive were those results of SAT and ACT scores?
Thanks!

Yes, ds. did Explore test in 6th grade and got 99% and he made it to the Grand Recognition Ceremony at Duke with his scores for SAT in 7th grade. His IQ test indicated that he was highly gifted. He had stellar Critical Reading scores - 720 in seventh grade.
