I can't handle this level of change.

So I think I'll go work on my dissertation.

Which is a good thing!

Now Ravelry flummoxed me :) I expected to wait longer to get it (I just wanted the patterns!)

Obviously, I love it. I loathed the old format--any board like that, including TM, is just old and out of date. This format is so much more manageable and easier to navigate.

Believe me, you will get used to it quickly. And then you will wonder how you ever lived without it. :)

This kind of change is difficult because I can't just run in and "check" the boards--I'll have to figure them out first! I'm sure once we get use to it, we will see it as an improvement.

No, if you see the little balances next to the post number, that lets people "vote" on you. And your little green squares indicate your overall score.

I know I come overcome my apprehension to change - I have for 40 some-odd years but it still gives me a bit of the heebie-jeebies. But I LOVE seeing so many faces - putting names to faces - what a blast.
Now - question - why under our names does it say "just visiting"?

~Rachel~
01-18-2008, 05:34 PM
once you reach 10 posts it will say "Hive mind larvae" and change with the ever increasing number of posts :)

Jane in NC
01-18-2008, 05:37 PM
I like being able to do a quick search on a name for previous posts, particularly when earlier comments are referenced or when I discover someone with whom I think I have something in common. Does the Board Master determine the longevity on the basis of date or number of posts or what? (Searching old boards in the old format could be problematic.)

You are funny! And no, I would not call myself a fan- fans know things like names and faces, and who they date, and how many kids they have, etc.

I just like the music!!!! I have a lousy memory, and can never even remember who performed what song- I just know what I like when I listen to my radio- and I am such a station flipper, I never stick around to listen to who did the song, anyhow.
Now my dirty secret is out- I love to listen to music, but never know who does what to get it to my ears.

I hope this comes out right. I loved the format of the old board -- it was so easy to scan down quickly and see what was new & interesting. I'm sure I'll get used to this, but right now I'm rather grumpy about being forced to move to a new, fancy board format. I do like seeing pictures of people, though! Now fleeing cyberland to watch Captains Courageous!

It kind of depends on what has changed. Some changes I really roll with; others I handle with all the aplomb of a disappointed and vociferous toddler.

But mostly, as I get older, I'm learning to roll with it. This is largely on the advice of my mom and on seeing the benefit of "rolling with it" has given her. There are some things that can't be allowed to change, but they are a lot fewer than we think they are.

One thing that has hit me as I grow older, too, is that when I have a hard time changing on something or other, it makes me examine the importance I put on the thing. Like when we get a new pastor or something, why am I getting "bent"? Is it because I like that guy's preaching style? (Dumb reason--I can get used to something else.) Is it because the new preacher doesn't profess Christ and Him crucified? (Great reason not to like it.) KWIM?

If they work like other boards, then it is a popularity rating of sorts. If people like what you say, they can give you good points. If they don't, they can give you bad ones. lol

I agree with Jean that it is going to be much more difficult to rush in and scan all the conversations quickly. The upswing is I'm not as tempted to "hang out" on this type forum, which is a good thing as far as time management goes... This is a great forum and I'm excited for everyone, but I'm kinda sad, too. It will take some getting used to, that's for sure!

All change involves loss...even good change. I consider this board a good change, but I will miss the old board, too. Guess it's the conservative in me. However, I was up this morning as though it were Christmas, ready to unwrap the new board! :)
