I have heard of this kit, and long ago someone I knew used those videos to teach public speaking to a small group of teens. I think a public speaking class demands an audience. We affiliated with the NCFCA, and my son gained very usable and impressive skills over a 3-4 year period of classes and competitions. Many areas have debate and speech clubs for homeschoolers. In addition to SGC, you might consider Communicators for Christ conferences and Toastmasters.

Could you tell me what NCFCA and SGC stand for?
Thanks

The NCFCA is National Christian Forensics and Communication Association. You can find them online at www.ncfca.org (http://www.ncfca.org). It's essentially a homeschool speech and debate league and has been in existence for about 12 years. SGC is Secrets of Great Communicators.

:iagree: SGC is fine (a very good resource), but the actual experience of giving speeches, and debating on a team is invaluable. You really can't do it justice at home. Try to find a group near you :) Whether or not they love it at first, they will definitely benefit from it.

We have been involved with NCFCA for 9 years now. We have also done Toastmasters. I have graduated 2 to college (1 in law school now). All of my dc have gotten invaluable skills and knowledge from NCFCA experiences. Above all, I want my dc to love the Lord, but debate and speech taught them to research anything, think logically, speak persuasively and write eloquently. Are there other useful things in education? Yes, but these are more the "meta-skills" that are really the most important through life. I encourage you to contact your state's NCFCA Rep to see if there are any clubs in your area.
