I e-mailed Apologia to ask exactly why basic biology must be take before marine Biology. Here was their answer.
Thank you for your email! The reason your student will need to complete a high school Biology course before doing Marine Biology is simply that all the terms and vocabulary we cover in biology is not repeated in Marine Biology. They are assumed to have already been learned.
This year we have been going through Science Roots in order to be ready for Apologia Biology...but we'd much rather use marine Biology. Do you think he will be prepared for the terms and vocabulary of Marine Biology if he has gone through Science Roots? Or do you think there is a lot more to it?
Also...we do own the Biology book, so we could look up any terms that were not explained in the Marine book.
Should we go for it?
