I'd like to surprise my dh with some for dessert tonight. I have some Granny Smith apples. Thanks.

This is the recipe I use and we all love it!

Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings

6 medium apples
2 cups flour
2½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
2/3 cup shortening
½ cup milk

Peel apples and take the core out. Cut in half.

To make pastry, sift flour, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in shortening (I use Crisco) until particles are about the size of small peas. Sprinkle milk over mixture and press together lightly, working dough only enough to hold together.

Roll dough out on lightly floured surface. Cut squares big enough to cover your apple halves and pat dough around them to cover completely. Place dumplings in a greased baking pan (9x13)

Sauce:
2 cups brown sugar (I use about 3/4 that much)
2 cups water
1-4 Tbsp butter, depending on how rich you want it
1/4 tsp cinnamon

Combine in small saucepan and bring to a boil. Pour over apples. Bake at 375º for 35-40 minutes or until nicely browned. Serve hot with milk or ice cream. They are wonderful with ice cream!:)

A friend of mine uses this recipe. I have had them a couple times and they are really good. I don't like Mountain Dew, but I like these. They are sweet though.

Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings

2 (8 count) cans crescent rolls
3-4 tart apples
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 (12 ounce) can Mountain Dew soda

Spray a 13x9 baking dish or pan.
Peel and slice apples into 16 pieces.
Roll each apple slice in 1 section of crescent roll.
Place rolled slices in pan in two rows, put extras along side.
Melt butter, add sugar and cinnamon and pour over apples.
Pour can of Mountain Dew over all.
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
