How about reading Our Island Story by HE Marshall. She also has a history of Scotland. The stories are engaging and easy for younger ones to understand.

Get "Kings and Things"! Galore Park sells it, and it is delightful.

We have that, and "Brittania" and Our Island Story, too. They are all wonderful.
