View Full Version : Do you have the fall planned out yet? if so what are you doing?

We'll be doing MFW Rome to Reformation, I'll still be using Mammoth Math for my boys & probably Saxon 6/5 for dd. I really need to try & save money, so I might just use KISS grammar (http://home.pct.edu/~evavra/KISS.htm) (anyone use it?) for grammar. I am using Considering God's Creation for science. Also Bible Study Guide for All Ages is what else I'm looking at. I know there's stuff I'm missing, but this is just my "start"
What do you have planned so far?

I'm getting everything together now. I'll have a first grader and a fourth grader next year.
My first grader will be using MFW First Grade with MUS, Explode the Code, and Handwriting Without Tears. His science will focus on nature study and biology.
My fourth grader will continue with MUS and Rod & Staff for Spelling and English. He will also be using The Mystery of History vol. 1 combined with Sonlight. Right now, I'm planning to use Sonlight's Science 3 - Intro. to Biology with him. But, I am going to pick up a copy of Christian Kids Explore Biology and see what I think about that. It is published by the same company as MOH and looks similiar in set-up. If I get the energy, I'm going to try to combine CKEB with SL to add a stronger Christian perspective. I really like the way the format of MOH and if CKEB is as much like it as I think it's going to be, it's going to be so much easier to implement and I can include my first grader in with it. He will continue with Prima Latina.
I'm really looking forward to next year. MOH has gotten me very eager to start early but we do have some other things we need to finish up.

Yes, I think I have everything figured out! I will have a 2nd and 5th grader next year (just one year ahead of you, Donna!). I'm thinking of putting my
4th grader in Teaching Textbooks 5 next year (she's finishing up MUS Gamma right now). My 2nd grader is going to be starting Horizons, since he needs more variety and color than MUS. Both will be doing Sonlight Core 3 (we have LOVED Core 2 this year!) and Apologia Botany. Dd will continue with LLATL Orange (started it late) and ds will start LLATL Red. We use HWT for handwriting. OH--and dd will continue with Typing Instructor for Kids.
I think that's about it! :)

Not totally sure yet -- still pondering lots of things & making a list of items I'd like to see at the hs curriculum fair that's coming up....
Next year, we'll be doing 5th & 2nd. So far...
Math: MUS for both
Grammar: GWG for oldest; may use it w/ younger too (I'm trying FLL w/ him this year but it doesn't seem to be a great fit w/ him)
Handwriting: copywork/dictation for my oldest (she is finishing HWT's 5th grade/cursive book now); HWT w/ younger
Composition/Writing: still pondering -- considering IEW, maybe Classical Writing (Aesop B or Homer???), maybe Writing Tales -- sigh, I just don't know but it is something we need to address; younger is a natural storyteller, so I'll just work on narrations w/ him
Spelling: Sequential Spelling, probably
Reading: Just read & discuss, at this age/stage -- no real formal plans for this as far as a curriculum goes. Both of my kids are avid & strong readers.
History: SOTW 1 w/ both, adding in more for older student
Science: Not sure yet -- I've been looking over the WTM recs again, but I'm not a science person & I don't want to do it all myself. This is something were I so would appreciate an open & go curriculum.
Art/Music: Seriously considering Handle on the Arts.
Languages: Older takes outside, weekly Dutch class, so we'll continue that next year too. Maybe for younger. Also, I want to get back on track w/ Latin, so I'll probably get Lively Latin (to go along w/ our roots study that we're already doing w/ English from the Roots Up). Also considering adding Spanish too. Still looking at curriculum options for that.
Logic: Plan to implement for 5th grader a la WTM recs. Also, we try to do pencil puzzles, mind benders, and such (all of us) as a fun thing along w/ lunch a few times a week.
Geography: Trail Guide; we're already using this at our own (slow) pace, taking lots of time to find supplemental books, some short projects, etc.... So, we'll just continue. Whenever we finish world, we'll move on to the US geography book.
PE/Physical Activity: Older does horse-riding & may end up working/helping out at the stables some beginning in the fall. Not sure for younger as he's not as interested in things like this. They both spend lots of time outside playing, though. Would like to add in a very light 'health' text of some sort.
We also do quite a few field trips during the year. If the opportunity presents itself, we sometimes do art workshops or other (fairly short-term) classes.
I would also like to implement some longer-term projects for my 5th grader too, but I'm not sure where I'm going w/ that. Maybe pick 4 bigger projects through the year (perhaps one tied to history, one tied to science, one to art/music, and one to languages) that would require research (which I could help teach her how to start, how to organize, etc...), a paper of some sort, a visual presentation of some sort (poster or artwork), and ????
Yikes. That seems like a lot when I type it all out! I think I'll need a lot of diet coke & chocolate to get through the year, lol. In fact, I may need some now, just pondering all this. ;)

R&S Artpac 6
R&S Bible 6

So far this is what I plan.... I am still waiting to read the new LCC but I see that as more influencing methods and not necessarily curriculum choices. I am also possibly joining a co-op and I don't know if that will change anything.
Both kids will use

11yo ds
A combo of Lively Latin and LfC (I think!)

I have no idea what writing program to use

Well, I have it *mostly* planned out. We'll be doing 4th grade.
Historical Overview
US History -- begining with Age of Exploration
History
We've had such a magnificent time reading our way through history so far that we're not willing to give that up. However, we want to add a spine for US History. I'm looking at two different spines and trying to decide. I may even use the DYOCC suggestions/lesson plans. So, we have a spine and oodles and oddles of literature and projects. I LOVE history!
Religion
Still using Sacred Scripture, of course!
Still using St. Joseph's Baltimore Catechism
Adding Bible History
Still reading various lives and histories of the saints -- changing focus to those associated with our historical overview (plus others, naturally!)
Latin
Still using Latin for Children
Still going to Latin Chant class
Still using various Latin readers we enjoy
Math
Still going with Singapore
Grammar
When we moved into 4th grade English in January, I let my scholar choose Shurley English. I like it b/c it is an intensive English program and I feel she's getting a very sound education in English Grammar. She likes it for the jingles and the games/activities. On the other hand, it lacks, utterly lacks, any kind of beauty. I know, I know . . . and yet that is very important to us. We'll finish up the fourth grade book somewhere around Christmas and I'll decide then if we'll go back or stay with Shurley again.
Writing
I'll be leading an IEW/guided reading workshop next year. Well, I'll be offering it (free but you byom) anyway. The plan is start out with recess/lunch, then IEW, break, book club type discussion of the literature we're reading for US History, activity corresponding to the book/discussion. This year I'm leading a book club but it's just good literature in general. Next year it will be connected to History.
Literature
see above
Science
Undecided -- I'd love something that would dove-tail with our History but I don't know . . . we'll just have to see. I'd love any ideas!
Music
Continue Violin lessons
Period music re our historical overview
P.E.
Continue Tae Kwon Do

This is a HUGE change from a year ago when I was already busy creating lesson plans for 2nd grade at this time while working on 1st grade, I feel I've found better products and goals to suit us.
Gotta love growth!

Not really certain about all of this..but this is what I'm thinking:
math: BJU Pre-Algebra

history: Beautiful Feet Early American & World History Jr. High Guide
literature: fantasy, science fiction, and horror: classics and more modern reads (plus historical fiction)
writing: IEW

Logic - Mathematical Logic by Patrick Suppes
Latin - Henle
Science - Singapore
Philosophy - Lipman
Math - finish algebra I and then geometry...still deciding between Moise and Downs and Kiselev. I've got both I will personally have to do all the problems in Kiselev to know if it will be too difficult or not and I'm not looking forward to that task.
Spelling - remedial, nothing exciting here.
2&3rd grade: ETC, MCP phonics, Sing math, sing science, Easy Grammar, Minimus, STOW.
I need to figure out what levels and components of SWB's writing program correspond to what grades and if what corresponds to the 7th grade will be out by next fall.

Math - finish Dolciani pre-algebra and move into algebra I, text to be determined.
Latin - Continue with Galore Park Latin Prep series, and Lingua Latina
Greek - most likely Elementary Greek

Literature - Have not decided yet. We may try tackling the Iliad this year. We may stick with early modern literature, but throw in Antigone. Don't know.
Science - A little Singapore Interactive Science, Lego League, programming, and Boy Scout merit badge activities.
We might also try out Art of Argument, and delve into some philosophy; we'll continue piano lessons; I hope to fit in Artistic Pursuits, somewhere.

Our schedule includes: two students at grade level with BJU Math, Spelling, and English; our second go-round with TOG Year 1 The Ancients; Mind Benders; The Easy Spanish; How the Earth Works and How the Universe Works for our year of Earth science; and IEW Ancient History based writing lessons.
All the books are sitting on the shelf ready for our June 2 start date! :D

History/Lit/Bible: Using Sonlight Core 7, although we won't be quite done Core 6 when the school year begins. Probably the first 4-6 weeks will be spent finishing this "year" off.
Grammar: Jensen's
Spelling: a combination of the Scripps spelling bee site and a Hexco product, haven't nailed that down yet (she studies for the regional bee each year)
Writing: Wordsmith
Vocabulary: Vocab from Classical Roots C and D
Math: Not quite nailed down, but I'm thinking of using Jacob's Algebra and switch in and out of that and Mathematics; a Human Endeavor, also by jacobs. She's finishing Singapore 6B this year, but since she's young, I don't want to plow too fast through the Algebra until I see what kind of feel she's having for it. We also do math olympiad.
Science: Apologia Physical Science
Latin: Henle Units III-IV
Logic: The Thinking Toolbox, I think. Again, don't want to start anything too formal yet, because of her age, and we've both enjoyed Fallacy Detective this year.
Music: Violin lessons, orchestra
I'm considering starting Greek this year, and I've been trolling here, trying to get a feel for what you all are using. Thinking of the Alphabetarian/Huppa....thing, still trying to remember the word for that copybook!! But wondering now about Elementary Greek. So I'll have to see. She kind of plays with Rosetta German (dh is German, and it lets her practice a little), and we've been woefully lax the last two years with French, and it really is necessary here. But that would be terribly language heavy...so I'm not sure what to do with all that. Any input would be appreciated.

I've heard good things about KISS and from what I've seen at the website, it looks very sound. There's also a free, online math curriculum that I have saved to my favorites list (if you want more online stuff).....
I'm working on mine! I've scheduled out my Singapore math, but haven't bought MUS yet.
I've scheduled out Spelling Workout and have added in various word study, dictionary skills, outlining and other little things to that time period, as well.
I know that I'm using Memoria Press Christian Studies again; Abeka B; Getty Dubay F (I think), but I haven't bought those yet.
I have my science and history/lit/reading scheduled, but I'm looking for more books related to ancients for my son to read himself. I have some lists; I just need to pull them out and go through them...... We're covering mythology so heavily next year that I think I'm going to participate in the National Mythology Exam......
I purchased stuff for art appreciation and I already own stuff for music (now how to fit those in, LOL!)
I have received and scheduled out Espanol Para Chicos y Grandes for our Spanish work. I'm leaning toward Lively Latin, but I'd prefer a book to printing out all that stuff myself. But I can't contact the company, for some reason! I keep getting a message that my server can't connect to theirs (been trying since Christmas)..... So, I may end up going back to Latin Primer if I can't reach them.....
I ordered both WriteShop Apprentice (I think that's the name, LOL) and Writing Strands. I've scheduled out the Write Shop and together with some other things I have for writing, I think that may carry me through the year. So maybe I'll wait until after that to start WS. I'm not sure why I'm hesitant about doing it with this younger son; just don't feel it's going to fly with him......
I've scheduled out a geography study using the BF guide along with Minn and Paddle (and some other book(s) to fill in a few states that don't get covered by those). I'm doing it M,W,F and Logic on T,R. I'm using Mind Benders for logic and have those scheduled.
SO, I'm gettin' there!

I'm a little focused on my upcoming 7th grader right now. But I really do have three other kids I'll be teaching in the fall, as well:
5th grade:
Math - Finish Right Start Level E, move full-time into Singapore 4A/B
Latin - Continue with Galore Park Latin Prep.
Greek - Begin Greek, probably with Elementary Greek.
Writing/Grammar - Classical Writing Homer A.
History - Early modern history w/Story of the World, possibly re-reading Famous Men of Rome and D'Aulaire's.
Literature - we'll see. Planned books include Johnny Tremain and possibly The Witch of Blackbird Pond, and certainly more Little House.
Science - interest-led, or tagging along with his brother's Singapore Interactive Science, and Webelos Scout badges.
2nd Grade
Math - Continue Right Start B, moving into C whenever we get there.
Phonics/Spelling - Phonics Pathways/All About Spelling
Grammar - First Language Lessons 2
Handwriting - We're going to try Getty-Dubay Italic
History - Early Modern w/SOTW
Science - Nature studies and interest-led
Literature - Greek and Roman myths, fairy tales, tales of American heroes
1st Grade
Math - Continue in Right Start B (he's about 45 lessons behind his brother)
Phonics/Spelling - Phonics Pathways/All About Spelling
Grammar - First Language Lessons 1
Everything else is the same as for 2nd grade, above.
I have a 2nd grader and 1st grader working on the same level in everything but math, she's .5 a level behind him. And a Pre-K/K4 tag along. :)
Math
Horizons 2 for ds, Horizons 1.5, then 2 for dd
Latin
Finish Prima Latina, start Latina Christiana and Minimus for a fun extra
English
Copywork--Memoria Press Copybooks, various copy selections
Spelling--I may use one of the Spelling through Copywork books from Queen Homeschool
Narration--various literature and history selections
Handwriting--begin a cursive program and use copywork to practice
History/Geography
We're doing a year overview of American History. I have TruthQuest guides, This Country of Ours, D'Aulaire biographies and a great library. We'll read a couple of Holling C. Holling books for geography.
Literature
Ambleside Year 2 recommendations, fairy tales, myths, "Good Books" lists, both read alouds and independent reading
Everything else
I use Ambleside for hymns, poetry, composers, artists, Shakespeare, Plutarch, some nature studies
Bible and Catechism
We're using Studying God's Word right now and it's going well. We also learn verses and catechism for our memory time. I may start "Training Hearts, Teaching Minds" with them, we'll see.
Is that everything? :) We'll continue violin lessons, private and group, ballet, soccer, maybe add in a weekly PE class. Dh teaches art skills on Saturdays, when they remind him. ;)
For the PreK/K4 year old: I'll start OPG with her and work on teaching her to read. I have Kumon books and pre-ETC books for her that she's already working on. Basically I'll aim to have her reading a bit, writing numbers to 20, writing upper and lower case letters by the end of the year. If we don't get there that's fine too, but she's ready to go as far as I can see!
And then lots and lots of creative play and mucking about in the backyard. And maybe learning about babies and a little human anatomy if we find ourselves with a 4th on the way sometime in the next year.

For my dd for K I will do R&S Grade 1 and then Singapore 1A. I plan on starting the R&S in a month or two and it seems to be a good fit for now. I have no plan for phonics and reading- I am just following her lead for now. She has really taken off in reading and "plans" are not working for us. I plan on using 5 IN A ROW and HSS units for literature, science, geography and everything else. We wil also use Italics A.
For my dd for 6th here is what I have planned:
Math: R&S Grade 6
French: First Start French and on to volume 2
Latin: Latin Book 1
starting a copybook
Grammar: Voyages in English 6 (the grammar section only)
Composition: Intermediate Language Lessons and to finish Writing Tales 2

Semester 2
Art: Monet
Watercolor kit
Poetry: Tennyson
Literature: Anne of Green Gables
Knights of the Round Table (Pyle)
Geography: Minn of Mississippi
History supplement: In Days of Queen Victoria
I have really tried to cut back on the number of books and allow us to focus more on our readings. I've felt lately that when we have too many we just read them to finish them. I am hoping to really use carefully chosen books (based on where we are in history, what she would enjoy, some of the classic "must reads", etc.) to help us savor the writing and have more discussions. We haven't been following up with narrations either. I comfort myself by saying "less is more" and if we finish all these we can always add more.!!!

I am not sure what sparked me to go ahead and get my act together for next year, but this is what we have for 5th grade:
Latin: Probably continue with Latin Prep or whatever her teacher, Abbeyj, decides to do!
Math: Sinapore 5B/6A...maybe to 6B
Science: Noeo Biology II
Grammar: I think Growing with Grammar...but she has complained so much about grammar lately...I "might" be persuaded to look at something else. But probably not :-)
Spelling: Spelling Workout F
History: Here is where my quandries are! I have History Odyssey (Ancients II)...but I am rather underwhelmed. I am looking at TOG; possibly using HO and supplementing; and lately I have been hearing a huge buzz about History at Our House (http://www.historyatourhouse.com/). Anyone here use it??
Writing: I think we'll use IEW with the Ancient history writing...but I want to see it before I commit.
Logic: Another I am not sure of...probably Mindbenders or something from Dandy Lion logic...
Art and PE: using classes through homeschool group

We officially start our new school year in July, but we're in an awkward in-between place now because we've finished almost all of the curriculum I'd planned for this year. I don't really want to start a whole new school year at this point, so we're using a lot of stop-gap and transitional materials, including things I will use into next year.
But that's not what you asked, was it? ;)
Here are our plans for 2nd grade:
Daily Subjects
Latin: Lingua Latina (http://www.pullins.com/txt/LinguaLatina.htm) (we're beginning this now)
Math: Singapore Math 2A/2B (beginning in a few weeks)
Composition: CW Aesop A (http://stores.lulu.com/classicalwriting)
Weekly Subjects
Literature: fables, fairy tales, and folk tales, coordinated with CW
Geography: Evan-Moor Geography Units (http://www.evan-moor.com/Series.aspx?CurriculumID=7&SeriesID=54), possibly Africa (http://www.evan-moor.com/Title.aspx?CurriculumID=7&SeriesID=54&TitleID=241&EmcID=250) to coordinate with...
History: Ancient Israel and Egypt (http://www.amazon.com/Pharaohs-Ancient-Egypt-Landmark-Books/dp/0394846990/) to coordinate with...
Religion: MP Christian Studies I (http://www.memoriapress.com/descriptions/ChristianStudies.html)

I will be a new full-time homeschooling mom to a 7 yr old, a 5 yr old, and a 3 yr old in the 2008-2009 year. However, I have been "tutoring" (part-time homeschooling) this year for both my current 6 yr old and 4 yr old.
Here is what I have planned for next year:
3 yr old:
WP I'm Ready to Learn
Aesop's Fables
Greek Myths
Stories from Around the World
Wee Sing Bible Stories, America, and Nursery Rhymes
At this point, I don't plan to use a lot of workbooks; rather, we will be doing real-life math with activities around the house (counting, sorting, patterns, basic addition). This seemed to work for my other kids, so I am hoping it will with her, too. Also, I purchase monthly themes from adaycare.com to help with organization . . . I plan to integrate the same themes into my 5 yr old's studies to ensure adequate coverage.
5 yr old:
Science: WP The World Around Me (Very light science program to introduce color, light, sound, nature, magnetism, etc)
Read-Aloud: Same as Above adding in 1st Level Easy Readers for shared reading.
Language Arts: LLATL Red (He is completing Blue currently)
Independent Reading: Various Level 1 Easy Readers
Bible: LifePac Bible 1
Math: Singapore Earlybird 2A and 2B (He is completing Earlybird 1 B currently)
Health: Abeka Health, Safety and Manners 1
7 yr old:
Science: Apologia Exploring Creation Through Astronomy
Read-Aloud: Same as Above adding in 3rd Level Easy Readers as well as some classics such as Charlotte's Web, Little House Series, etc
Language Arts:
Spelling: BJU Spelling 2
Grammar/Writing: BJU Grammar 2
Reading: LLATL 3 and book studies on 3rd Easy Readers
I also will be supplementing some BJU Reading 2 stories/comprehension questions
Bible: LifePac Bible 2
Math: BJU Math 2
Health: Abeka Health, Safety and Manners 2
For All:
PE: Bicycling, Walking, Aerobics, and various Y sports teams
Social Studies: SOTW Vol 1 with Activity Book
Music: MFW Music for Ancients Composer Study
Character Training: 365 Manners Kids Should Know
Art: Cave Paintings to Picasso, Come Look With Me, and Preschool Art
I am really excited about this coming year . . . I can't wait!

My 10yo will be doing ACE PACES. Not my idea of a great curriculum, but this is the first time he has had consistent success with *any* curriculum. He can move along at his own PACE and it is truly a mastery program. I hope to add in Latin, Writing Strands, and some good literature.
My 7yo will be finishing up BJU HomeSat for 1st grade. He will probably go on to 2nd grade - he really does well with this format. If not, he will do Calvert 2nd grade. I hope to add in Latin at some point.
For my 5yo, BJU was a *bust*, so I am on the search again. I will finish out this year with the Calvert Pre-K I already have and the Rod and Staff Preschool workbooks. Next year we may do Calvert K.
My 3yo is on the same level as her 5yo brother, so we may just fold her in.

We have been doing Abeka this year, but I am looking for some changes for fall, and really like the WTM. I noticed that many of you do or are planning to do Horizons Math. Anybody have a comparison of Abeka and Horizons they can give me?
Thanks,

We are having new baby :001_smile:end of summer so I think a lot about what our school year will look like next year, (will have 1st grader and 3rd grader and the busy 1 yo and 3 yo :tongue_smilie:)
I plan on using same things for grammar and math( Rightstart and Rod and Staff)~ we just haven't pinned down exactly what we will use for writing and latin for oldest~everything else is basically same, just next level. And just bought Living Books Curriculum Study Guides this weekend 2 map out my reading for history, science, and literature and narration and copywork.
We are hoping 2 use next year:
8 yo son~
Rod and Staff English 4..for Grammar...he will b 9 next fall
Independent Reading~Rod and Staff Bible Readers
Rightstart Math Level C
Some other math program for extra math busy work..I don't tend to get any Rightstart math games done for the practise, this year he is doing Saxon 2 for extra work..he needs lots of review and practise with math...
Living Books Curriculm for science, literature, and history reads~includes copywork, narration, and reading
6yo son~
Rod and Staff 1
Rod and Staff Bible Readers
maybe First Language Lessons...we'll see
Rightstart Level B
Living Books for science, literature and history~copywork, narration and reading
What I need to figure out for next year....
what will oldest son do for Latin...we are almost done Prima Latina...we liked it. I wanted to drop latin for next year cuz I'm busy and don't know it myself 2 teach....but Dad says it's a good thing to learn and son really likes learning it...so we need something for him to do in latin, I like the video thing, so we'll see what is out there soon. Looking into Latin options is on my "2 do list".
I want to take a look at Susan Wise Bauer's new writing book to teach writing...I have her Writing CD and found it quite helpful. I haven't had any time 2 look into that new book yet... so also on my "2 do list.
Happy planning everyone!

I am a procrastinator and a planner both. I've found that if I plan far enough in advance, I can avert disaster inspired by my procrastination.
DD will be in Kindergarten in the fall. I've got her curriculum all planned out, and some idea of how our days will go.
My goals for her K year are:
1. Learning to read
2. Prep for first grade math
3. Beginning handwriting
4. Getting used to doing seatwork on a regular basis
DD's stated educational goals include:
1. Learn to sew
2. Learn to play the recorder
3. Ballet lessons
I plan on enrolling her in Eagleridge, a 1 day/week enrichment program through the Mesa schools. A friend's children do it and they've really enjoyed it and gotten a lot out of it. So, that will be Monday's schooltime. Ballet lessons and library trip will constitute one day a week, and an outing such as the zoo, science center, an SCA event, etc. will be a third day's planned activity. One day will be "take a break day" each week, preferably on DH's day off if we can swing it. That will leave three "Homeschool Days" when we will do lessons. We may well do some or all of the read-alouds every day, though.
We will be using the following curriculae:
For phonics: Tanglewood School's free program and Starfall.com, phonics games
For Literature: Nursery rhymes and tales, the complete works of Winnie the Pooh, and the works of Beatrix Potter.
For Classical Studies: Aesop's Fables
For Heathen Studies: Norse Myths
For Music: Recorder Fun Book 1
For Art/Crafts: My First Sewing Book and Kit
For Math: Funtastic Frogs Math, workbooks we already have, pattern block activities, time and money games
For Geography: Me on the Map, Geography Songs Kit, Kingfisher First Picture Atlas
For Modern Studies: Wee Sing America
For Science: Museum trips, backyard nature study
For P.E.: Ballet classes through the city
For Latin: Song School Latin
Sounds a bit daunting, but really it's not. Here's how our schedule should go:
Daily (at least 3 days/week): Phonics, a math activity, part of her Latin lesson, short copywork exercises to practice handwriting and reinforce phonics or geography or Latin (Ex: The first week she will probably have to copy her name), and read-aloud time including the week's patriotic song or reading, fable, myth, nursery tale, and modern children's lit, plus any books DD wants on top of that. Also a nursery rhyme will be subject to memorization, and we'll stick with one until it's down.
Weekly: Sewing lesson, Recorder lesson, Geography activity
Seatwork shouldn't take more than twenty minutes to a half hour, read aloud time maybe half an hour, and the rest is playing games.
I hope to get us into a regular ritual/rhythm to our days. There's a chance I may be babysitting during after-school time, which would give her a chance most days to play with at least one other kid. Especially if I'm still working at Wal-Mart (likely I'll cut back my hours if I can get that after school gig), keeping us on a regular schedule might just save our sanity!
Now I just need to put in a curriculum order and come up with a good excuse to start some of it next week instead of next fall...

I'm firming up plans for dd as follows:
CW Aesop B
Harvey's grammar
Developmental Math
Christian Studies II
Elson's Reader
Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space
MOH 2
How to Teach Art to Children
Vocabulary Bridges (I think, not sure)
Not sure what to do about logic or foreign language. We did Matin Latin but took a year off of foreign language this year. Not sure if I want to attempt Greek or something else. Also, not sure what to use for logic.
Music class
Sewing class
I am working on something for PE. Money and time are huge factors in that one.
I changed my mind on a few things. LOL
MUS for math
nature study instead of a formal science
Building Thinking Skills and Red Herrings for logic
I may use God and the History of Art, since I have it (I'd forgotten about it!)
Still undecided about foreign language.

I've got a good Anatomy text with coloring books, I'm looking mainly for an Integrated Science--something that has the Physical, Phsyics, Chemistry, Life--ahh well almost all the sciences thrown in.
And yes, I've looked at singapore(and your link) and Singapore just looks too young and I can't afford the walch.. but I'm scouring amazon right now anyway..

4th grader (My baby cannot be in 4th grade!)
BJU Math 4 & Reviews book
TOG Year 2 Upper Grammar (w/SOTW)
GWG 4 & Writing Aids from TOG; possibly also Writing Tales 1
LC I
Apologia science (2 of the elementary series; depends on what we do this summer)
Art & Music - Harmony Fine Arts w/Artistic Pursuits
at co-op: probably an extra art, music, and writing class, since she likes those; maybe French
For my middle girl (9th grade):
Either Jacob's or Chalkdust Geometry (leaning towards CD)
TOG Year 2 Rhetoric
BJU Writing & Grammar 9; Writing Aids; we'll see what else
Continue Cambridge & Henle into Latin II
Apologia Chemistry
Art & Music - looking at Barb's line up (Harmony Fine Arts), and I'll probably do that. Looks good.
@co-op: Spanish I most likely; maybe a writing class
My oldest went to ps this year and will be a junior next year! Oh my! She's taking a couple of AP classes, so I'll glean what I can from those. At ps, she'll be taking:
Alg 2
Chemistry
AP English language
AP US History
French III
Art III
I'll keep *trying* to get some Latin into her at home, but she doesn't have a whole lot of time.

Same as what we are doing now, but add Latin for my oldest. Hmmmm...we will have finished Apologia Zoo 1 before then and will start Zoo 2.
Heather
We've already started fall because 1) it's our first real year of HSing full time and I want to make sure that I have lots of time for screwing it up, and 2) I'm pregnant and due in Oct, which will cut a big hunk out of my year!
I'm teaching two, and I've developed a schedule that gives them lots of activity and play breaks but also leaves them pleasantly tired at the end of the day. We've got:
-Music, singing (3 new songs a week), music appreciation (from my classical music library--they listen while playing or coloring or drawing), violin, Suzuki method, will add The Violin Book--I'm teaching right now, though the older one's pace is disturbing me because I'm afraid I'll only be able to handle it for a year or so without outside private lessons.
-Memory work (2 new poems a week, 1 Bible verse every other week, and various science and history bits, as needed)
-History, SOTW as a spine--I correct the history as we read--with lots of picture books and an activity of some sort every day
-Penmanship, Getty-Dubay Italic plus copywork from the memory work for the older one--I'm having him copy two lines on the Getty-Dubay K-2nd level paper. I'm a bit worried about how little writing I'm making him do at the moment, but I don't want him to hate other subjects because he can't write well yet.
-Science, mostly my own curriculum with various books I have plus RS4K Chem pre-level 1, Apologia Zoology, and MPH Science (sequentially, not simultaneously)--some reading and an activity every day
-Bible, currently Egermeier's Bible Story Book but soon Bible Study Guide For All Ages
-Spanish, I'm just using Voces y Vistas (old high school level text) as a guide on what to teach since Spanish was one of my majors--plus independent activity is either from The Complete Book of Spanish (pretty worthless, but the kids love bright workbooks, *sigh*, and it was cheap), or Rosetta Stone Spanish
-Math--RightStart, will add Singapore Challenging Word Problems
-Spelling--Sequential Spelling 1 (to be bought) for older one
-Grammar--Growing with Grammar 1 (to be bought) for older one
-Lit--read-alouds done by Daddy at bedtime, various literature, mostly from the 1000 Good Books list (older one)--Explode the Code/Bob Books (younger one, not taught by me)
-Art--not taught by me!--Child-size masterpieces, a dorky kid's craft book, various kid-oriented art books, and instruction from a professional artist--I can't tell you how glad I am to get out of arts and crafts! Can't stand 'em!
-PE--gymnastics, swimming, and later dance and martial arts (not me!)
Next year, we'll probably add Chinese and piano.
With the combo of two kids, particularly one with a lower attention span, we do everything every day (except grammar will be 3x per week). The kids are/will be accelerated between 1 and 7 years for everything except for the older one's handwriting, which isn't good at all. :-) I do the subjects in batches so the kids have time to earn up a considerable amount of free time between the scheduled start times for play. We're outside as much as we can be. We'll probably homeschool all summer on the covered porch, with shrieky, shirtless boys dashing between science and the swing set.
I work mornings and a little in the afternoon, so if they're both awake and conscious before school start time, they have even more free play outside.
I'm changing away from scheduled lunches to having them eat during listening times because when given a fixed lunch, they spend it talking instead of eating! (WOW can they talk...) So lunch has turned into another recess instead.

I'll have a 2nd and 4th grader in the fall, and we're going to deviate from TWTM that we've loosely followed for the past 2 years. I've been wanting to do American History for a while, so we're going to try WinterPromise American Story 1 this fall.
I'm even considering using their language arts program as well---at least for my 2nd grader. The idea of having so much of our day scheduled and planned for me is SO appealing. I've nit-picked and tweaked other schedules and created my own for so long that I'm worn out by the time I start teaching. I think that the kids and I will all benefit from my having a more restful day.
I may still use Rod & Staff grammar (which I LOVE) for my 4th dd, because I really want a strong understanding of grammar for my kids. The language arts of WinterPromise does look a little light in comparison with what I've done in the past, so I'm still undecided.
I'm also going to stop trying to pull together science (ala TWTM) and go with a full-blown science curriculum. Right now, I'm liking Real Science 4 Kids Chemistry. My kids love science, but I seldom do much with them, because I don't like having to plan it all. I'm hoping having a "real" curriculum will help.
I'm also finding myself gradually moving away from the rigorous "classical" philosphy and more into the Charlotte Mason philosophy. I think my kids will respond much better to schooling with a more relaxed approach.
Blessings,
Lisa

gentle math intro each day (15 minutes tops, mostly in the form of silly games)
basic phonics (Letter of the Week free online curriculum)
also must be outside at least 4 hours a day, if it's over 55 degrees

We have quite a mixture of things going on...baby due in 10 days so we're taking all of April for spring break! Just finished our hours in March, so not too worried if we don't do much til July 1 (that's when our hour counting begins in MO). But, I do plan to get back at it in May & June a little bit, wrapping up a few things we left hanging. Here's the overall plan for 7th & 9th grades:
7th grade ds:
SL 7 w/ TQ AOR I (I plan to write up a plan of how to combine these...)
BJU 8th gr. science
Jacobs Elem. Alg. (did ch. 1 in March)
continue French I, may add in Henle if interest?
continue sequential spelling
Econ - Penny Candy continue (started in March)
Writing - IIW the Grammar of Poetry (love this! started in Feb)
9th gr dd:
SL 7 w/ TQ AOR I
BJU 8th gr. science
TT 7 continue
cont. French
Penny Candy
IIW - poetry
BJU geography
Seems like there's more but I don't have the plan in front of me. Anyone else trying to post stuff here so they can post on fs? I'm a little behind I think or not getting something!
Blessings,
Shannon

My 5 year old is going to private school for kindergarten. I will miss him dearly. After much prayer we think this is going to be a blessing for him.
Here's what my second grader will be doing in the fall:
Rod and Staff Grade 1 Reading and Phonics (This curriculum includes bible)
First Language Lessons
Saxon Math 2
Winter Promise Animal Worlds
Veritas Press Old Testament to Ancient Egypt
I started planning already and I think we will have fun!
