We use Latina Christiana for Latin and like it. We also plan on going into Henle next. This will give you an idea of what "works" for us.

We have done Hey Andrew! levels one and two for Greek.

What would YOU suggest for Greek? Stick with Hey Andrew! or a different one?

We had a similar thread pop up about 2 weeks ago: http://67.202.21.157/forums/showthread.php?t=7352

In my opinion, Elementary Greek is the best program out there to teach Koine Greek.

Thank you for the thread. How did I miss this?

I will research, but Elementary Greek sounds promising.

What age group is it best for? My dds are 4, 6, 8, and 11. I do Latin with the older two and plan on doing Greek with both of them. Could they both handle this text?

More questions....Where should they "be" after finishing year 3 of EG? Translating from the Bible? Reading in Greek? Ready to start a higher level? Or just beginning?

I started my guys on Latin and Greek when they had a year or two of Latin under their belt, your 8 & 11 yo would do well with it. After completing EG 3, if you plan on continuing with Greek, they will need to move on to a higher level program. I think Machen is a good choice because it is very similar to EG, but others like Biblical Greek by Mounce or Homeschool Greek by H. Bluedorn; I'm sure there are others.

Something we do, now that we are almost done with EG3, to practice is check what passages the pastor is preaching on, type it in Koine and then bring it to church with us. One day we'll spring for interlinear Bibles :)

A local Christian bookstore was going out of business, so I picked up a Greek interlinear Bible for $8. I love a good deal. My middle son really enjoys looking through it and trying to read some of the passages. I like your idea about picking out the passages from the sermon.

After our discussion on the previous thread, my DH as decided to move into New Testament Greek for Beginners by Machen after we finish EG III this year.

We used the first 2 levels of Hey Andrew, and then switched to EG this year. It is an excellent program. It's a lot meatier than Hey Andrew, but I don't find it difficult either. It has nice short lessons and exercises, but my 2nd grader and 4th grader are really getting it. I don't regret starting with Hey Andrew though. I think that it really helped cement the Greek alphabet. With EG you go over the alphabet in about 2 weeks. I don't know if that would have been enough if we didn't know it at all.
