Looking for opinions on Jensen's - Journey Through Grammar Land.

I'm looking for something that is thorough, and interesting for 6th and 7th graders. I plan on using their other products when dc are a little older.

Thanks

I used this first semester of this year, for 5th & 7th grade. Neither of them liked it. At all. I went through the "story" part and highlighted where each worksheet was to be done (these are marked in the text by a [S2.1,S2.2]). Then on their assignment sheets I put what pages to read and what worksheets to do each day and if they needed to meet w/ me for the lesson. On Friday's we'd go over & correct their work. The storyline (the reason I bought it) is clever but not that well done. We did the first 5 chapters first semester and I decided to just get something on verbs instead of slogging through the 6th & final chapter this semester.

It was thorough & had a lot of review. It was just frustrating to find the info and my oldest (who I thought would enjoy the story part) didn't like the differences in terminology (nouns called namers, etc) . There is a lesson at the beginning of each chapter's worksheets & sometimes additional lessons throughout the worksheets. These must be done to actually complete the worksheets. The story part doesn't actually teach. I did these lessons w/ my girls.

I'm sure some love it and grammar suddenly becomes the favorite subject. Okay, that is what I was hoping would happen for my oldest! But it didn't and my 5th grader (who likes grammar) didn't like it either. And I didn't like it. If no one likes it, I generally change course. I plan to use Analytical Grammar with them both next year.

I'll bet my oldest would gladly let me send you her copy of the book if you'd like to browse it before buying! :D
