View Full Version : Digital Scrapbooking...Your Favorite Resources and Tips (take-off question)
The scrapbooking poll/post has brought to mind my prior dabbling in digital scrapbooking and my desire for more mastery. Can you share favorite resources, tips, layouts, freebies, etc? It is actually something I'd like to teach my oldest daughters and count toward a technology credit (using Photoshop Elements). It is a great life skill, too.
I so appreciate ANY help!

good teaching videos (for Photoshop Elements, etc.) on YouTube! One thing that I'd like to do is take all of my *paper* and scan it so that I can use it in digital scrapbooking. I have a feeling that I'm going to be doing digital SB much more in the future, but I have TONS of paper and don't want to waste it! I'm sure I'll keep it for my dds to use or to make smaller albums for my parents, etc.
One of my favorite sites so far is Cottage Arts: http://www.cottagearts.net/tutorials.html
Thanks for all these good tips/resources. I'm encouraged to dig deeper!

The VERY best on the web (not that I am opinionated, LOL!!) is the Shabby Princess - www.shabbyprincess.com - check out "downloads". Her stuff is beautiful and got me published in CK and MM a couple of times! She is SUPER kind and her design work is awesome!!

I use this (http://scrappersguide.com/index.html)website. There is an amazing help board for PSE questions. They answer every question and I have been amazed by how much they help.
I subscribed to their yearly membership which is great because each month she sends these great tutorial videos and sets of paper and fonts and other embellishments. It comes out to $3/month or something and you get a ton of stuff. You can get a free month's copy of the newsletter so you can see all the stuff you get.
There is also a scrapbooking basics CD that I have ordered and am excited. Her style is very easy to follow and she provides written instructions plus a video. This has been a life saver for me. I searched through tons of stuff on the internet before finding this site and it was the most accessible stuff that I found.

is digital scrapbooking cheaper than the "regular" way?
Thanks,
Wendy
I hope someone with lengthier experience can answer your question more definitely than I. However, for me, it seems as if it will be less expensive. You do have to pay for whichever scrapbooking software you use, although you may already have it on your computer. But, you don't have to heat/cool, clean and pay for square footage for all your supplies! Materials are reusable, can be re-colored and altered for "free" to use on for another page. There are a surprising number of free kits, pages and elements for download. You can make many of your own materials with scanned items. You don't even have to pay to have your photos printed in order to use them. Of course, when you desire to print out your pages, it will cost money to print.
I would be interested in knowing if anyone has done a cost-analysis or has noticed themselves paying more/less for digital vs. paper scrapbookiing.

it costs me $3.00 to print a page at Costco. I got Photoshop Elements6 for Christmas. I joined a membership (mentioned in my post above) where I get a bunch of paper, fonts, elements and tutorials for $3/month . You can also buy paper or embellishments online if you want. However, you don't have to buy stamps, scissors, the lastest paper cutter, die cuts, etc... So, if you are a scrapper who likes all the equipment it is definitely cheaper. If you make do with the minimum per page, then it is probably about the same. So far, I haven't spent any money other than the membership fees and printing. I suppose it is the kind of thing where if I started poking around on the internet I could spend more money on it. :-)
