My ds is in first grade and I've slacked on science this year (his book was back ordered, then out of print, and I've been just dabbling here and there in some Usborne books). I'm looking to start next year (or maybe now) in a more solid and consistent approach to science. I'm looking online at Apologia's Elementary Science (Astronomy, Botany, Zoology). It doesn't state the grades for these courses. Can any of these be used in first or second grade? Is there an order for these books??
Thanks!

I think they are suitable for K-6. The books are usually done in this order: Astronomy, Botany, Zoology I and Zoology II. I do think the Zoology books are more difficult than astronomy and botany. We are just finishing with this series, and it has been truly enjoyable. We've all learned a lot about science. In addition, many of the experiments are very doable at home.

The Astronomy book would be a great place to start for your 2nd grader. HTH!

I also think Astronomy would be the place to start.

i also think the astronomy is a great one to start with. depending on the reading level of your student, you may have to do some or much of the reading aloud. the zoology books are more challenging.

I agree with the other ladies. I did Astronomy with my K and 3rd grader. We skipped a year and now this year we are doing Zoo II. they are in 2nd and 5th. It's a bit much for my 2nd grader but she keeps up pretty good. my 5th grader already knows a lot about marine life, but he wants to be a marine biologist someday so he is loving it.

We used Zoo 1 this year for K-5. This book is flying animals, primarily birds and insects. I have heard a lot of people say to start with astronomy, but my dd did fine with Zoo 1. I will have to say that there are a lot of details presented that she will not remember at this age. I have even skimmed sections so that I would not lose her interest. The good thing about this book is that it encourages you to observe birds and insects. My dd loves to catch insects and watch the birds at the bird feeders.
Good Luck
