Something with homemade "slime" - that's all I've got!!! Maybe someone else with lots of boys will have some good ideas for you.

What we've done for birthday parties in the past:

1) Scavenger hunt - depending on their ages we do it a) in the house b) within a couple of NOTIFIED neighbors and c) with trusted friends willing to haul around 2-4 teenagers for an hour or two.

2) Treasure hunt - prepare a treasure chest (my favorite is to use an old looking suitcase - usually find them at a thrift store). For kids who are just reading or mostly non reading - I make a map but cut it up like a puzzle. Each kid gets a puzzle piece. Once they assemble it as a group, they can find the treasure (usually "gold" coins, beads, candy, super balls, whoopee cushions and some sunglasses). For kids that read fairly well, I make clues that are hidden around the house/yard in "x" colored eggs. They hunt for the eggs to gather clues, but they still must come together to find the ultimate treasure (I find it really helpful to have an older sibling or two/or neighbors to help facilitate this.

3) Check Family Fun's website. They have some good "fear factor" type stuff in their Halloween archives. You just need to set up a dark tent-like space in your house (if the weather is bad) and provide some blindfolds and gross foods. I think it's nasty, but my boys love this kind of thing.

Wishing you good weather for your party.
