Does anyone know where I can find some (even two would be great) educational computer games for MAC OS X...I don't have Classic running, and it would be a pain to install it (aside from the money it costs)

It seems like all the educational games are really made for OS 9. DID they just stop making educational stuff for Mac when OS X came along or what? Or is the educational game market always a little slower? Then again I've had my computer for two years now...that's a LONG time in the computer world. OS 9 was like four years ago.

Soon I hope to get an old PC from a friend for my son so we won't have this issue, but for now...

Spongebob Typing worked on our 10.4. Other than that, we don't have any. I'll be watching this thread to see if any one else knows. I bet Stephanie not in TX has some suggestions.

We're an all Mac family. I don't buy software, there is so many wonderful, free, online educational websites! Here are some we've enjoyed:
I Know That (http://www.iknowthat.com/com)
Ed Heads (http://www.edheads.org/)
Magic School Bus (http://www.scholastic.com/magicschoolbus/)
Brain Pop (http://www.brainpop.com/) (some free)
Dance Mat Typing (http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/)
Fun Brain (http://www.funbrain.com/)

DID they just stop making educational stuff for Mac when OS X came along or what? While there are some academic titles available on the general public, there are even more on the educational market... grrrr. Check out Academic Superstore (http://www.academicsuperstore.com). The old MathBlaster games are OSX native. We run Parallels (http://www.parallels.com) on our Intel Mac, so we can play old Windows games. Parallels works MUCH better than Virtual PC used to, but it won't play games that require accelerated graphics. You also need to have Windows games to install. The plus side is that you can have more than one version of Windows so very old games that are twitchy on 2000 and beyond can be run on Windows 95).

Here are some games we have used.

OSX games:
Fritz and Chesster
I Spy (not really educational, but fun)
Zoombinis (these are the best educational games ever)
Mia Math/Science/Language (we have math and science, the kids like these more than I do)
Math Blaster 6-8
Jump Start 1
Number Devil

Parallels:
Singapore Math CD-ROMS
Cluefinders 3rd grade (I highly recommend this)
Math Blaster 8-9 (cheaper than the OSX versions; you'll want the old ones with the ages in the titles; I highly recommend these)
Magic School Bus games from library
