It got me researching dog breeds again. I love doggies but we do not have one. The kids and I volunteer at an animal shelter so they can play with cats and dogs, learn how to treat and take care of them and to do some community service work. It has been wonderful. Some of us have allergies and honestly with 7 kids the thought of one more responsiblity is overwhelming. But after reading all the posts about dogs it got me thinking again that it would be nice to have a dog. The kids really want one.

Sooo... the shelter lets volunteers foster dogs that are not up for adoption yet. It is good for the puppies to be socialized and get them out of the shelter away form sickness and such. What a great idea!! So Friday we brought home a 4 month old little german shepherd mix for the weekend. Such a great little guy and we had so much fun.(besdies him not being potty trained and I have no doggie experience)

He didn't bark, jump on the kids or chew on things he shouldn't -an all around great dog. But one of my 3 year olds was really nervous around him and was crying al ot even when he would just walk by. I knew ahead of time we were not keeping him but I had NO
idea that I would have such a break down when I brought him back.
The kids were crying, and when I got to the shelter I approached a nice looking family waiting in the lobby and asked them if they were there to adopt a dog. When they told me yes, I just burst out crying telling then about the wonderful little guy I had, and how I didn't want him to go to a bad family and blah blah blah. (Weirdo ) Then when I brought him up to the counter I burst out again. I didn't bargain for this, and it was so unexpected, sort of out of my character.

I just kept thinking about that poor little guy yesterday knowing he was having fun with our kids in a nice warm house and now he is in a cement kennel with a bunch of barking dogs. I am so sad. I didn't know I could become so emotionally attached in such a short time.

Anyone want a cute little shepherd mix named Brock? LOL

Dogs have lived with us humans a long, long time, and I feel truly sorry for people who can't bond with a good dog.
