I'm planning for next fall when dd will be an (advanced - in LA) eighth grader. Will this be appropriate for an 8th grader?

Most people agree that it is best to be used before high school. So, I think 8th would be fine, but just before 9th would be better, because they would have the techniques fresh on their minds.
