I'm considering this for 6th grade ds.

It is surprising how much my girls are enjoying it (they are in 5th and 7th) and we have done very informal science up to this point. I think 6th would be a great age for Rainbow. I'm on the fence about continuing with the second year with my then 8th grader, I would really like to see her using a "real" textbook to get used to the rigors of hs science so by then we might just switch over to BJU. I sometimes wish the readings were longer or a little more fleshed out, but Apologia General was the opposite and they seem to be retaining better with short snippets rather than long monologues ala Apologia. Hope this helps

Yes, thanks that does help. My main thing is that I want ds to do this mostly on his own and he likes that too. Short snippets will be good and the experiments super (and having the stuff already there is GREAT!).
We've used Exploration Education this year and he LOVES it. Best money I've spent.

Sounds like a perfect fit. My girls love the experiments, it's the best part. For the first time they are actually getting done without panic :)

Hey Chris! Glad to hear you stuck it out and it worked out for you!
Our problem was that it was such short readings that my ds thought he read it and knew what it said. One really has to meditate or contemplate such short readings to really flesh out what it all means. My ds didn't do that, so Apologia works for him because it almost does the thinking for him :)
