Anyone else notice this?? They've been talking about this for so long that I almost forgot to look for it. Of course the Omni samples link still points to one for Omni I. So I have no idea of any differences with Omni IV.

I'm still flipping between doing a WTM type of history/lit or Omni for my 8th and 9th graders this fall. I like how the WTM pattern teaches how to learn. I also like that it is basically just a routine... we won't get the 'behind feeling' so long as they read/work on a reasonable number of books by the end of the year. Then again I like the idea of Omni I because it is all planned out (I think I'll have very little time for planning this summer)... it's pick up and go which means they will always know exactly what to do next (there's less fussing and skipping work if it is all laid out by someone else ;) ).

FYI: [We will be doing CW Diogenes --essay writing this year, the following year CW will incorporate Trad Logic, the year after that CW incorporates rhetoric. Plus in all these levels CW includes some of the Great Books.
Also, I think my dc's schedules are up to about 6 hours a day before this is added in! :001_huh: So I think I should keep it down to about 2 hrs/day for whatever I choose.]

hmm, since this is an Omni post .... let's consider going with Omni:
Now that Omni IV is out I'm wondering if I should consider it instead, since it is for the 'rhetoric' stage while Omni I is for the 'logic' stage. Hmm, not sure my kids are ready for 'rhetoric'. So if I go with Omni I, should I add or alter any of it for a 9th grader? Should I consider putting 8th grade ds in Omni I and 9th grade dd in Omni IV?

:bigear:

Kathie,

Having done Omnibus before and having kiddos fairly close in age, 2 yrs. apart, I would recommend that you combine them and do Omnibus I with both of them.

It would be VERY difficult and time consuming for you to do two different Omnibus books in the same year. PLUS, there are a lot of discussion questions where it's great to have more than one student to avoid the situation where mom asks the question, kid said "I dunno", and then mom has to ask leading questions to get them to the right answer. Older DS participated much more in the discussions when younger twin brothers were doing Omnibus with him.

Omnibus I - III are 7th grade AND UP. They are perfectly fine for HS. If your younger one goes through the rotation again, you could do Omnibus IV and the others, when VP finishes them, at that time.

Omnibus I, in our experience, was the hardest reading of Omnibus I & II (doing III next year) b/c of the ancient texts. I believe Omnibus I - III is meant to be a foundation for Omnibus IV and above, so you wouldn't want to do Omni IV w/o having done Omni I first.

FWIW,
